Description

This WWII Ithaca 1911A1 is in great, used condition. This pistol has an Ithaca slide and Ithaca frame with a date of manufacture sometime in 1943 based on the serial number. The left side of the slide is marked "Ithaca Gun Co. Inc. Ithaca, N.Y." The left side of the frame has the "FJA" stamp indicating that this gun was inspected by Col. Frank J. Atwood who inspected Ithaca and Remington Rand frames. You also can see the proof testing "P" stamps on the frame and top of the slide. The barrel is a Post-WWII rearsenal replacement as indicated by the "7791193" and "85" markings likely indicating a 1985 year of manufacture. The right side of the frame has the faint Ordnance Department inspection stamp and RIA (Rock Island Arsenal) stamp. The right side of the frame also reads "United States Property" and "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY". The magazine is manufactured by Checkmate as part of a post Vietnam War contract as indicated by their 1M291 Cage Code. There is some wear throughout as seen in the lisiting photos, but mechanically this pistol should be in great shape. The bore appears clean and the rifling is strong. This handgun and others like it have a very storied service history and would make an excellent addition to any collection. Included with the handgun is one 7 round Checkmate magazine, CMP hard case, and papers.
